The 7 Apps I Use On The Daily

I’m very lucky my business is multi-faceted, from planning social media content, to sending out media kits and other days we may have to fill in for a client’s photoshoot. Wait, but I just made it out like this is a good thing? Yep. Because no day is the same, and it’s what you make of it. Swear, I’m never bored and there’s never a dull moment!

And one of the questions I get asked ALOT of the time… is “How do you do it?” “Do you sleep?” “Do you work weekends”…

The answer is… well.. staying organised?

I’ve always been quite an organised, neat and tidy person, however, boy do I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, under the pump and am constantly whispering to myself… “what the f…?”

Growing up, I remember also always reading those “WHAT’S IN YOUR BAG” pages in Cosmo or Cleo.. but man, someone should write a “WHAT’S ON YOUR PHONE” section for entrepreneurs, business owners and just all-round busy people (shotgun, think I’ve found my new blogging category!)

So here’s a little insight into my iPhone and what I use on the daily to help me stay on track and achieve my goals.. both professionally and personally.

1.INSTAGRAM

Surprised? Didn’t think so. Instagram is my daily bread and butter. It’s what I’m good at. And it’s what I use everyday. You don’t want to see my screen-time for this… it’s pretty scary. But definitely the most used app on my phone!

2. TRELLO

The ULTIMATE project management app. I use this to manage social media calendars, events, marketing campaigns… everything! You name it! It’s the super user friendly, easy to track and you can set automatic notifications so you’ll never miss a deadline again. PLUS members who are contributing to your “board” can jump in, edit and upload documents, comments and images. Here’s a snapshot of what my social media calendar planning looks like.

3. INSIGHT TIMER

I meditate on the daily. Without fail. It’s a non-negotiable. 20 minutes minimum. I was no pro, but meditating consecutively for as long as I can remember has really changed my mindset and my response triggers. I no longer “just react.” I really take time to be aware, be present and acknowledge how each situation makes me feel. With over 20,000 FREE guided meditations, you’ll find something that’s right for you.

4. SLEEP CYCLE

Since starting the business, my relationship with sleep has changed drastically. I used to see sleep as a “chore” or something we “had to do.” Heck, sometimes I wasn’t even doing it and I was sleeping 4-5 hours a night. But not getting enough sleep really isn’t cool and it sure as hell doesn’t let me function at my best. I monitor my weekly sleep patterns and make sure to clock in as much as I can. I am currently on 6-7 hours per night (woohoo) and as you can see in the screengrab below, it also tells you at what level you are sleeping.

5. DROPBOX

The holy grail of organisation! Managing multiple client accounts and sifting through hundreds of photos of content really can get time consuming… but dropbox is a one stop shop to store all of your important documents, images and any other content you might need! And best of all, it sits in the “cloud” so it doesn’t take up your storage / it’s super user friendly also.

6. SLACK

Our go-to for all things communicating with clients. Especially FitazFK. It streamlines all “chats” and it’s easier than sending so many emails back and forth. It’s kinda fun? Aha. You can create multiple groups within your organisation and you can share links, images, content… pretty much anything!

7. PHOTO EDITING APPS

I rotate through a few of my favourites every now and then. But right now I am loving, VSCO (ultimate for filters), Colour Tone (more filters and presets), SnapSeed (this is a must for anyone who works in social media!!!!), UnFold (to create luxe stories) and Photo Editor (your generic photo brightening, sharpening and contrasting of photos.

Increase Your Instagram Engagement With These Steps!

It’s the constant algorithm battle we tackle every day. Engagement rate. When your followers go up, your engagement naturally goes down… it’s a bit of a catch 22 isn’t it?.

But how do we do it? Here are some easy-to-implement tactics you can use to increase your Instagram engagement and hack the algorithm in no time!

  1. ENGAGE WITH LIKE-MINDED ACCOUNTS DAILY
Sounds so simple right? But it’s something we so easily seem to forget! Instagram engagement feeds engagement. The more you engage, the more visible your account becomes and the more engagement your page will receive. Engaging with others on a daily basis also improves your standing in the algorithm - Instagram wants to see that you’re a real person and you use the platform as intended! Too many times we see clients / brands who have an Instagram account and “post and run.” They simply post a photo on their feed and hope for the best. You’ll find it hard to increase your likes and reach if your account is dormant.

  2. USE INSTAGRAM STORIES FREQUENTLY

Again, sounds very basic. But here’s some stats to back this. As of January this year, Instagram stories had 500 million daily active users worldwide… which means, stories are too hard to ignore.

Using stories not only showcases your content to more of your audience, but it can also increase traffic to your latest posts and easily boost your likes. Instagram is currently favouring this “SHARE TO STORY” tool and will automatically provide you with a higher, organic reach.

Want to reach more people with your stories? Include hash-tags! I personally find hash-tags tacky and a bit “clunky”, so you can get a bit creative and “hide them” behind GIFs, stickers or location tags etc.

3. ADD A GEO LOCATION TO EVERY POST

Speaking of location tags. This is one of the first things I always check when people ask me how to get more likes on Instagram. Are you using a geo-location tag on your posts? When you use them, your post appears under that location (similar to how your image shows up in a hashtag) and it can significantly increase your reach and likes!

You can add the location you are currently at, where you were when the photo was taken or any other location of your choic. Get strategic about this though. What locations would your target audience be interested in? A specific bar or the precinct itself? Think about it.

Much like hashtags, photos posted in a location tag are shown in a chronological order, so make sure you are adding them at the same time you make your post. There are other ways to “hack” the location system, which we will talk about in a later post.

4. 15 MINUTES OF FAME

After thoroughly researching and trying to “hack” the algorithm (I use this term way too lightly), we found 15 minutes was the maximum timeframe you have to really maximise your post. 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after.

15 minutes before: Make sure you are liking, commenting and interacting with other posts that are “similar” to what you are about to upload. Ie. if you’re running a cafe, jump on, search the hash tag #BrisbaneCafe or look up other popular locations and interact with these posts. They can be tagged images, searched by hash tags or even via the geo-tag itself. Once you upload your photo, because your photo is in relation to those you have just recently interacted with, Instagram will see this as a “hot post” and you’ll be ahead of the game.

The first 15 minutes of sharing your photo are the most crucial. Make sure you are replying to and liking comments within this time frame.

5. CUSTOMISE YOUR BIO

How many times has someone asked you, “Have you been to XYZ?” And you automatically whip out your phone and the first thing you respond with is “No, let me look up with their Instagram.”

I’m calling it now, Instagram is the new Google. Every account has a customisable profile heading. Think of that as an extension off a Google Search Bar, and what would someone type in to find your product / business / service.

Ie. if you’re a Brisbane hairdresser, your business name may be your Instagram handle, but you might want to include “Brisbane Hairdresser in Paddington” in your custom bio.

ALSO - prioritize your information and make sure the first two lines of text in your bio explain who you are and include a compelling call to action.

There you go! My fave top tips to help boost your likes and reach almost IMMEDIATELY. Have you found any hacks that work for you? Is there something you would like us to dive into further? Drop me a comment in the box below xx
